This year’s Devon ASA open water championships held at Odicombe on Sunday 4th August were a success for Exmouth Swimming & Life Saving Society as they defended the team trophy they won last year.
A typical summers days was had as the rain started to fall as the swimmers entered the water, the juniors started first on their one lap course of 1500m. 18 junior swimmers competed from all over Devon.
George Cornwell-Brown was the first Exmouth swimmer home in 3rd place. The first girl home was Kiera Jordan who just missed out on a medal in 4th place.
It was also the first time in an open water competition for Sophie Spiller and Jasmine Simpson-Currie who both completed the course within seconds of each other and were the two youngest swimmers to take part this year.
The seniors started not long after the juniors on their longer course of 2 laps of 3000m in total and Olly White came home first in the men’s competition keeping the trophy that Cameron Carpenter-Warren won for Exmouth the previous year. Tara Dudley was not too far behind to finish 2nd in the ladies division. Andy Mcglynn followed shortly after to complete the course in the mens division and help retain the team trophy.
