East Devon Mini League Rounds 1 & 2 2013
Exmouth Swimming & Life Saving Society recently entered the Mini League which is an event staged over 3 galas. The first gala was the sprint event held at Pyramids Exeter, with teams from Torquay, Honiton, Sidvale, Exeter, Dawlish and Exmouth in attendance.
It was an encouraging gala with several club records broken and numerous personal bests swum. LilyMay Girvin broke her u10 50m freestyle record, and was also involved in the new club record for the girls u10 relay along with Jess Dixon, Heidi Schunck and Clara Woodhead. There was also a new club record set for the 8x50m freestyle canon relay.
It all ended in a fantastic first place finish for Exmouth giving them a healthy lead going into the next event which was the relay gala held at Riverside in Exeter.
Again club records were broken for fun with a total of 15 team records broken in this round. The gala was hotly contested between Exmouth and Dawlish and it came down to the final 4 events with the two teams neck and neck until some great swimming and a bit of good luck helped Exmouth come out on top with a second victory.
These victories are a good sign of how well the club is progressing at the moment and hopefully Exmouth can win the Mini League title at the Summer gala to be held at the start of June. It is also a positive indicator of the Exmouth team’s progress ahead of the Devon Development galas at Plymouth where more records may be broken.
