Devon County Championships 2017

Four Exmouth swimmers competed in this year’s Devon County Age Group Championships, which were held over three weekends in January at the Plymouth Life Centre. To be able to swim in the Championships, each swimmer had to achieve a challenging County qualify time at a licensed meet. First up on the second weekend of the Championships, were Abbie Freeman and Ada Taggart in the 50m Butterfly. Swimming in the 13 year and 16 year age groups respectively, both girls can be proud of their efforts. Abbie took a huge 3 seconds off her personal best, clocking 36.16 seconds, whilst Ada swam to PB level with a time of 35.78 seconds.

The following weekend Abbie returned for the 50m freestyle and came 17th with a time of 31.45 seconds. Clara Woodhead was also in action in the 50m breaststroke in the 15 year age group. Clara swam a licensed meet PB finishing 14th with a time of 41.69 seconds. A great effort from Clara, in an event that is her favourite stroke. Flying the Exmouth flag for the boys was Joseph Bollington. In the 200m backstroke, Joseph clocked a time of 2:37.75 in the heats, which was enough to see him into the final. In the final Joseph finished a very respectable 5th place with a time of 2:40.76. The weekend wasn’t over for Joseph as he also had the 100m breaststroke to compete in. Finishing in 9th position overall in the heats with a time of 1:25.21, and just missing out on the final.

All four swimmers enjoyed the experience of competing at their first County finals, and the club are proud of their achievements.
