Dawlish Imps Gala

18th March 2017

A team of young Exmouth Swimmers, made the journey across the Exe to represent the club in a gala for 12 and unders at Dawlish Leisure Centre, and came away with 10 PBs and two new club records.

For the girls there were 50m breaststroke PBs for Jasmine Pashley, Sophie Raven and Megan Harris in their respective age groups. There was also a PB for Megan in the 50m backstroke setting a new time of 42.44s. In the 100m IM, there were PBs for both Lucy Humphreys and Grace Gillingham, whilst Emily Clayton and Hannah D’Souza set new 50m backstroke times on the lead leg of the medley relays.

The PBs for the boys came from Rhys Norman and Luke Crompton.  Rhys swam a PB in the 50m backstroke recording a time of 40.25s. Luke’s PB came in the 100m IM.  He set a new time of 1:36.94.  What was most remarkable was that it was the first of 5 individual events for Luke, as he was the sole Exmouth representative in the boys 11U age group.

The two new club records came in the 8x25m mixed cannon relay, and the 8x50m mixed cannon relay. The races involved one male and one female swimmer from each age group, swimming the respective distance.  In the 8 x 25m cannon, Jessie Cooper swam a time of 24.08s to get Exmouth off to a good start, before handing over to Stan McCormick. The relay was completed following further hand overs to Jasmine Pashley, Matthew King, Lucy Humphreys, Luke Crompton, Grace Gillingham, and James Griffin. The eight set a new club record of 2:31.31.

There was one more fast and furious eight (no connection to the movie franchise) in the 8 x 50m cannon. The Exmouth octet of Jessie Cooper, Stan McCormick, Jasmine Pashley, Matthew King, Esme Amor, Luke Crompton, Abbie Freeman and Aiden Beacon set a new club record of 5:17.56.

Thank you to Dawlish Swimming Club for the invite, to Dawn Harris for team managing, Club captain Clara Woodhead for helping to support the younger swimmers, and to Connor Harris for timekeeping.
