On April 15th we took a team of  11 swimmers up to compete in the Gloucester Masters Open Meet.  The gala again was run well and the atmospheres was electric , with a great atmosphere surrounding the team.  The first impressive swim came from Elaine Lewis breaking Liz Coates’ 7 year old club record in the 50m backstroke in a time of 33.74.

 

The 50 fly turned out to be a closely fought race with Exmouth gaining 3 of the top 5 places with Adam Tapp in 3rd, Richard Lander in 4th, and Jonathan Hawkins in 5th with all three within a second of each other.  Jonny then pulled out a great swim in the 100 breastroke getting within 1 second of his all time best in a time of 1.10.81.  The most impressive swims of the day came from Mark Westaway, who swam PBs in the 200 and 100metres freestyle in times of 2.30 and 1.08.89 respectively.  Other PBs came from Ian Lang in the 100 and 200metres freestyle and in the 100metres breastroke, Nev King in the 50 fly, Adam Tapp in the 200 freestyle and Bill Letch who swam the fastest he has for a while in the 100 free in a time of 1.06.61.  The team improved on their 7th place last year to achieve second visiting team.
