Masters swimmers from Exmouth Swimming and Life Saving Society travelled to Sheffield to take part in the ASA Masters and Senior Age Group National Short Course Championships at the weekend.

 

The event was held at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre where a record number of Exmouth swimmers competed.

 

Stuart Baker, Cameron Carpenter-Warren, Yvonne Carpenter-Warren, Tara Dudley, Nikki Fraser, Jordan Hamilton, Jonathan Hawkins, Louise Kathro, Neville King, Richard Lander, Sam Lander, Ian Lang, Bill Letch, Christa Page, Jamie Page, Adele Parham, Ross Szender, Adam Tapp, Jacqueline Wells, and Olly White were the Exmouth swimmers who were joined by Peter Gilpin and Bryan White swimming for Truro City and Wellington respectively. The team had the support of a small group of supporters and Masters Coach Bob Clarke.

 

All of the swimmers had a number of swims to be proud of over the weekend with the team picking up 14 medals.  Christa Page won the Exmouth team’s first medal of the weekend in the 1500m Freestyle with Nikki Fraser claiming silver in her age group soon after and adding bronze in the 800m Freestyle later in the weekend.  Joining Nikki in making her debut for Exmouth was Adele Parham who took bronze medals in the 200 and 400 metres individual medleys and then swam with Yvonne Carpenter Warren, Tara Dudley, and Jacqueline Wells (also making her Exmouth Debut) to claim silver in the 4x100m Women’s 160yrs+ Freestyle relay.  Exmouth’s world champion Bill Letch took a number of medals with gold in the 200m IM, 100m Freestyle, and 100m Butterfly events, silver in the 50m Freestyle and 100m IM and a bronze in the 50m Breaststroke.  The team of Cameron Carpenter-Warren, Jonathan Hawkins, Tara Dudley and Nikki Fraser added another Bronze to the tally in the Mixed 4x100m 72+ Medley Relay and Stu Baker rounded off a strong weekend of performances in his first Masters Nationals with a silver medal in the 200m Butterfly which was later voted Exmouth Swim of the nationals by coach Bob Clarke, the swimmers and their supporters.

 

The swimmers would like to thank all their supporters and particularly coach Bob Clarke for all his support and coaching over the weekend and throughout the year.
