Dudley Breaks Three Club Records. A large team led by coach Bob Clarke travelled to Yeovilton to take part in the annual Royal Navy Open Meet. As defending champions the team had high hopes of defending their title.
In the younger age groups the team dominated. In the 18-24 age group Tara Dudley enhanced her sprinting credentials by setting club records in the 200, 100, and 50 metres freestyle events.
Tara took the age group title with team mates Elaine Lewis and Gemma Franks second and third respectively. Lewis took the 50 metre backstroke title and Franks the Breastroke title all in blanket Exmouth finishes. Rachel Wasiewicz underlined Exmouth’s dominance by taking fifth place in the age group.
Equally impressive in this age group were the men with Jon Hawkins, Adam Tapp, and Richard Lander involved in a three way battle for the title.
Lander won the 200 metres freestyle and the backstroke events, while Tapp (4.27) took 11 seconds off the 400 metre freestyle club record to take that title. |

Hawkins took the overall age group title with fine swims in the sprint events. Ian Lang in his second Masters competition, finished in a credible eighth place in the age group and swam personal bests in the 200 and 400metre freestyle events.
Open water specialists Olly White and Mark Westaway battle it out for the 25-29 year old age group. White took the title with PBs in the breastroke and Freestyle events. Westaway made it a one two in the age group, taking first place in the 400 freestyle.
Neville King achieved a long term aim to swim under 30 for 50 freestyle in a time of 29.92. Pete Redbourn (50-54) took gold in his age group in a time of 30.02.
British Record Holder Bill Letch (65-69) entered six events and came away with gold medals in all of them. Letch was also pleased to dip under the 30-second barrier in the 50 metres freestyle, touching in 29.98.
Stuart Baker (30-34), swimming for the first time in Exmouth colours, took two comfortable gold medals in the 100 metre fly and backstroke events. Catherine Argyle (40-44) completed the team effort swimming to seventh place in a highly competitive age group.
The Exmouth team were unable to defend their title, finishing in third place overall unable to overhaul the points scored by a strong Royal Navy team and large Wincanton Squad. |
