On Sunday 7th June Exmouth Swimming and Life Saving Society held the 46th annual Fairway swim. For the second year the swim was due to be swum over the new course; however weather conditions out past the sand banks meant that a shorter alternative course had to be used, staying within the protection of the sandbanks.
The alternative 2mile course cleverly used the tide with swimmers swimming against the strong outgoing tide on the way back to the finish point. Darron Corden and Caroline Ball returned from last year to successfully defend their titles. Olly White from Exmouth completed his 10th fairway swim and won the Exmouth title for the 10th consecutive year with Ian Lang and Ross Szender pushing Olly all the way to the finish. Tara Dudley finished 2nd in the female championship to claim the Exmouth ladies trophy. Exmouth swimmer Mark Westaway competing in his first open water Breaststroke event claimed the Breaststroke men’s title.
The swim once again attracted a strong field, including 9 solo channel swimmers.
Exmouth Swimming and Life Saving Society wishes to thank boat crews, kayakers, and the ladies in the kitchen for making the swim such a success.
