Exmouth Swimming and Life Saving Society swimmers have been busy recently. February saw the start of the Devon Age Group Championships which finished in March. Twenty two swimmers from the Master and the Competitive sections of the Club qualified to swim in this event.
Mike Gard was 3rd in the1500 freestyle, 6th in the 100 Individual Medley, 100 Freestyle, 400 Individual Medley, 400 Freestyle and 200 Freestyle. He was reserve finalist for the 200 Butterfly, 100 Butterfly and 100Backstroke. Will Flynn took 3rd in the 200 Breaststroke and was reserve for the 200Backstroke. Samantha Gard was 5th in the 100 Breaststroke and the 50 Breaststroke. Sam Lander was 4th in the 50 Backstroke Championships. In the 100 Backstroke preliminaries he was 5th. Kayleigh Vine was 5th in the 50 Breaststroke preliminaries.
The Club competed in the Devon Relay Competition held in Plymouth. Teams were placed in the top six places nine times. The Mens Open team were 3rd in both the free and Medley races, the Medley time setting a new Club Record. The Ladies Open Team was 3rd in the Freestyle with yet another Club Record being set. They were 6th in the Medley race again beating the previous Club Record held. The Boys in the 11 and 12 age group finished 4th setting yet another new Club Record for their time. Boys in the 13 and 14 team finished 4th in both their Freestyle and Medley races. The Boys aged 15and 16 finished 5th in the Medley race and 6th in the Freestyle. This was quite an achievement because 2 of the team members were only 14!
The following day saw our younger swimmers competing in the Devon Sprints. Swimmers have to swim all four stokes over 50 metres. The Club had 15 swimmers finishing in the top six places in the different races. Mike Gard was first in the Freestyle, 3rd in the Butterfly and 6th in the Backstroke. Oliver Daw was 3rd in the Butterfly and Breaststroke events. Will Flynn was 3rd in the Breaststroke and 5th in the Butterfly. Daisy O’Loughlin took 3rd in the Breaststroke. Hamilton Easton was 3rd in the Freestyle, 4th in the Breaststroke, 4th in the Butterfly and 5th in the Backstroke. Edward Taylor was 5th in the Freestyle and 6th in the Butterfly.
Four swimmers from the Club received Baggcat awards in their age groups, Mike Gard was first in the 13 year old boys group, Hamilton Easton and Oliver Daw were 3rd and 6th in the 14 year old boy’s age group. William Flinn was 4th in the 10 year old boys group.
